I Have you been in China? Have you been heard about Lunar New Year? Millions of Chinese celebrate Chinese New Year on Lunar New Year each year. As Thanksgiving and Christmas are the most important holidays to Americans, the Chinese New Year is the most important holiday to Chinese.

The holiday is the most important and interesting to Chinese people.

IV Today I am going to introduce why Chinese celebrate the Lunar New Year, then how to celebrate it, and some interesting stories.


I I would like to talk a legend for Lunar New Year.

A. Legend tells of a village in China, thousands of years ago.

1. There is an evil monster one winter's eve.

2. The villagers devised a plan to scare the monster away.

3. The color red has long been believed to protect against evil.

B It is the first day of the first month of the lunar calendar

1. A calendar which is tied to the 15-day cycles of the moon

2. These cycles were very important in an agricultural society like traditional China.

3. They are still used today by farmers planning their planting times.

4. The Chinese New Year does not fall on the same date each year.
