Statement of the Problem: This research project will investigate the market in the Northern Virginia area to sustain a new Fairfax Realty Incorporated real estate brokerage firm. Fairfax Realty has been in existence for 14 years and has expanded from one brokerage firm to 7 real estate brokerage locations and 2 real estate settlement companies. The research will establish if is will be profitable to open more branches. The second consideration that this research will have is determining the best locations in the DC metropolitan. Background information on the problem: There is an interesting set of circumstances to consider when establishing the placement of a real estate brokerage branch. Not only, does there need to be a market for customers whom are seeking homeownership. There also has to be a pool of real estate agents that can sell the homes. There is steep competition to attract the top producers to sell for your branch. The way in which Fairfax Realty has to court the most talented agents by being completely unique. Other real estate franchises charge ridiculous fees for everything from signs to administrative work. Fairfax Realty decided to charge no extra charges for anything. Other real estate franchises require agents to perform desk duty on a rotating basis. This practice hinders one of the most valuable assets to any real estate agent flexibility. Fairfax Realty remedied this concern by hiring full time receptionists and administrative staff. Other real estate franchises hold mandatory Tuesday sales meetings. Fairfax Realty agents have no mandatory meeting at all. All the sales support they need is given threw the Managing Brokers and for the most part these coaching sessions are one on one addressing the needs of specific transactions. The Methodology of the Research: The data will be gathered using a variety of different avenues and by using the Multiple Listing Services,...

" 'It isn't fair, it isn't right,' Mrs. Hutchinson screamed, and then they were upon her."(About Jackson 2) When a writer composes a short story, some may have a meaning and others may not. With the ones that have a purpose, it is usually a very profound, easily understood meaning that is developed within them. The quote is taken from Shirley Jackson's, The Lottery, which is one short story the has a very difficult meaning to be understood . From this one quote alone, a person should be able to tell that this story is supposed to show what is right and what is wrong. It is with this in mind that Jackson writes the story to show us all some kind of meaning. Shirley Jackson was born December 14, 1919 in San Francisco, California (About Jackson 2). She lived in San Francisco for twenty-one years until she entered Syracuse University (Bentley 1). While attending Syracuse, she met and married Stanley Edgar Hyman, who ironically was a critic that later became her editor(Bentley 1). The Lottery was written in 1948, seven years after Shirley Jackson wrote her first short story, My Life with RH Macy (About Jackson 2). She then went on to write The Road Through the Wall, The Hangsaman, Life Among the Savages, The Bird's Nest, Raising Demons, The Sundial, The Haunting of Hill House, and We Have Always Lived in the Castle between 1948 and 1962 (About Jackson 2). August 8, 1965, three years after her last short story We Have Always Lived in the Castle, Shirley Jackson died (About Jackson 2). The Lottery was set in a small village where people began to gather between the post office and the bank around ten o'clock in the morning on June 27th (Lottery 1). The children assembled first, where the feeling of freedom settled around them uneasily(Lottery 1). The men gathered soon after, looking at there children and chatting about the...

All storylines have some type of feature that enables them to be compared and contrasted. The plots do not have to be related in any particular way nor do the characters have to play a similar role. In the movies, Prefontaine and Awakening's, they have plots that can be compared and contrasted by going in depth of the movie detail. The protagonists of both these great movies move promptly in the goal they want to achieve, but they end up in the exact position which they were not hoping for. Both Steve Prefontaine and Malcolm have unstoppable drive to succeed in their ever lasting careers, both are around patients who may not match up to them or are good to their learning abilities, and finally neither one of them leave an lasting impression for the audience around them. The main characters, Steve Prefontaine and Malcolm have unstoppable drive to succeed in their ever lasting careers. Prefontaine, although not built like a runner, and discouraged at every turn, he broke and held every American distance record between 2000 and 10000 meters. He is an unusual runner who succeeds more with sheer will than natural talent. Even after Malcolm Sayer's (Robin Williams) research funding is cut off, he continues to a hospital full of catatonic patients that are in need of "awakenings". The patient's are filled with awe and enthusiasm that teaches the introverted doctor to value life's simple pleasures. These two men have captured the essence of society by going to their maximum effort to accomplish their career goal. Both protagonists are around patients who may not match up to them or may or may not help their learning abilities. To Malcolm Sayer, the patients are the catatonic members of the hospital he is working for. For Prefontaine, his patients are all the...

Introduction This essay portraits my journey of learning habits, experiences and strategy I will be using to successfully complete my masters degree. One of the important way of learning I feel is reflective writing and critical thinking which helps to evaluate ones strategies and also to evaluate the overall approach to ones work and their effectiveness in applying skills. In recent years the word critical thinking has become a buzz in education system. For many reasons educators have started teaching 'thinking skills' with contrast with teaching information and content. In a brief version of critical thinking can be stated as " the use of those cognitive skills or strategies that increase the probability of a desirable outcome. It is used to describe thinking that is purposeful, reasoned and goal directed - the kind of thinking involved in solving problems, formulating inferences, calculating likelihoods, and making decisions when the thinker is using skills that are thoughtful and effective for the particular context and type of thinking task. Critical thinking also involves evaluating the thinking process - the reasoning that went into the conclusion we've arrived at the kinds of factors considered in making a decision. Critical thinking is sometimes called directed thinking because it focuses on a desired outcome. " Halpern, Diane F. Thought and Knowledge: An Introduction to Critical Thinking. 1996. (http://www.kcmetro.cc.mo.us/longview/ctac/definitions.htm) Critical thinking can be seen as having two components: 1. a set of skills to process and generate information and beliefs, and 2. the habit, based on intellectual commitment, of using those skills to guide behaviour. It is thus to be contrasted with: 1. the mere acquisition and retention of information alone, (because it involves a particular way in which information is sought and treated,) 2. the mere possession of a set of skills, (because it involves the continual use of them,) and 3. the mere use of those skills ("as an...

For my assignment I used Microsoft Excel. I thought that this would be a good package to use because of its many different features. I felt that it had the best features available that were suitable for my task. There were many advantages to Excel. Using Excel, I was able to enter text, charts, graphs and also formulas. I found that I could input data very easily and the package helped me present my data in a very clear and organized way, more so than if I had used a different application such as Word. If I had used word, I would have had to calculate and enter in the information I needed every time. However, by using Excel I could enter formulas and therefore I did not have to change everything myself when I entered in a new piece of information, but rather they changed automatically. By adding these formulas all my calculations were worked out for me. I could also see what would happen if I added different values to my spreadsheet without having to change everything else i.e. a computer model. If I had have used Word then I would have had to do all calculations by myself. Using Excel I was able to add charts to my work which helped me to present my information even more clearly and also more attractively. Collecting Information I got the information which I required to do my assignment from 'The Link' catalog. I obtained this from The Link mobile phone store in Newry. I also did some ringing around to other mobile phone stores to inquire to see if their prices were the same or cheaper. Evaluation After finishing my assignment and using Microsoft Excel to complete it, I can now come to a conclusion on what tariff would be best for the student and the sales...

Aristotle once said, "The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet." Translation: Yes, studying every night until 11 PM for that big test when you could be out having fun with your friends or spending time with your family really stinks, but you will appreciate your education when it comes time to discuss your value as an employee to your boss. A college education is an investment. As with any investment, a college education takes time, planning and some sacrifice. But it is an investment that you will reap the rewards of for your entire life. People who have acquired a college education have better job opportunities, do more for society and develop skills and knowledge that can never be taken away. Studies have shown that higher education unlocks doors to better opportunities in the workplace. College grads earn more money. In 1999, the median annual income of male high school graduates working full-time and year round was $33,184 and $23,061 for female full-time workers. The average 1999 incomes for full-time year-round workers with a bachelor's degree were $52,985 for men and $37,993 for women. This shows an increase of $19,801 for male college grads and $14,932 for female college grads per year. Also unlike many other investments, a college education does not depreciate in value. These same studies show that a college grads income will rise significantly higher over the span of 40 years than someone who has never attended college (U.S. Department of Education, 1999). Graduating from college also has an impact on others around you and society as a whole. Another reason that a college education is valuable is because the value it holds with others. According to 2000 Census data, of the population of persons 25 years of age or older, only 23.9% had attained...

For this assignment, I chose to read the modern Canadian fiction book, Unless by Carol Shields. I first noticed this book was when reading BC BookWorld for assignment 1. However, I did not have much interest in this book at first, not until I was doing research on the internet. When I was trying to find a Canadian fiction book on the internet, I found out Unless by Carol Shields appeared almost everywhere. Therefore, it started to grab my attention. Then, I found out that the book, Unless, will be Carol Shields¡¦ last novel due to her illness in breast cancer and it may be her most despairing book. Therefore, I decided to read this book for my assignment. In this paper, I will briefly summarize the book and talk about my reaction to it. Also, I will discuss what seems to be distinctly Canadian about this book. In Carol Shields¡¦ Unless, the main character, Reta Winters, is a forty-four years old writer living in a suburb of Toronto. She has a loving husband who is a successful family doctor and is faithful to her. Although they were never legally married, but they have lived happily together for twenty-six years and have three teenage daughters. Also, Reta is an author of a successful novel and a translator. It seems that Reta¡¦s life is happy and almost perfect, but under many reasons, her life is not so wonderful at all. Her oldest daughter, Norah, is a 19 years old girl who suddenly abandons her normal life and starts to beg on a street corner in Toronto. Reta and her family do not quite understand why their lovely daughter suddenly changed. It seems that Norah is searching for something, searching for goodness for her life in this world. Even though Reta wants to...

The topic that I have chosen to study will fit into the BHU 214 - Management of Sport and Leisure module studied in semester three. Hopefully this investigation will allow me to develop my knowledge in this area considerably since my entry onto the course. Although, during the lectures on this module, I have learnt the information required to allow me an insight into how a sports events can be planned and also completed an assignment with regards to the actual setting up and running of an event in a fictional scenario. This investigation though, will allow me to gain more experience and valuable knowledge in this field, as I will be directly exposed to a fully functioning sports event environment. I will study the operation of the main section of the Holiday Play-Scheme entitled "Multi Activities" within in the Leisure Centre. During the school vacations: half-terms Christmas, Easter and Summer holidays the Leisure Centre offer a Play-Scheme for children aged between 5 and 11 years old. The Play-Scheme offers a range of activities in which children can partake, either for whole or half a day or in individual sessions. The investigation will include the staffing, marketing and structure of such an event and my research and recommendations regarding how the Leisure Centre could make improvements when offering such a service. My investigation will consist of research the in three different areas: Firstly I will be actually taking part in the scheme, acting as one of the play leaders looking after the children and running different activities. This will give me in depth knowledge of the "Multi Activity" from a ground level and I will be able to witness the actual functioning of such an event and see exactly how it works. Secondly I will interview the co-ordinator of the Play-Scheme...

When thinking about personal goals, I think about a variety of goals that I would like to accomplish. So to narrow things down, I wanted to begin with some short-term goals. My main personal goal at this present time is to earn my Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. I have known for quite some time that I needed to further my education by enrolling in school, but I always thought of reasons not to. Being employed at Abbott Laboratories for the last couple of years has given me first hand knowledge of not being able to be promoted without having a degree. I also see that there are a variety of things that I need to be trained on in order to work better as a team member and player. While earning my degree, I plan to work full time and use the knowledge I receive and apply it; thus making me feel confident in knowing that I am working more towards my goal to become a better asset to Abbott over all. Working and attending school full time presents many challenges. I have never thought about how I would juggle my time to prepare for work and school all at once. My goal is to learn how to prioritize my deadlines. I will change my daily routine in order to be efficient in both areas. I plan to prepare my assignments and tasks ahead of time by supplying myself with monthly calendars and placing my due assignments on each day. That process should alleviate pressure from my mind to become time manageable and focused. My family is also a very important part of my life. My husband and dog Sassy are my immediate family residing in TX. I wish to make time for the both of them. I work Monday through...
